‘The Buckingham Murders’ Movie Review: Kareena Kapoor Khan Becomes Mother in This Socially Relevant Whodunit

Social commentary in an intriguing murder mystery ensemble, The Buckingham Murders (TBM) A fast-paced thriller that reflects our social churn. Fueled by Kareena Kapoor Khan’s powerhouse talent and finely tuned by writer-director Hansal Mehta’s empathetic vision, the film genuinely attempts to understand social extroversion within the framework of genre.

Who are these young men who are shooting indiscriminately in public in prosperous suburbs of American and European suburbs? InTBM, wWithout romanticizing their actions, Mehta maps the troubled mindscapes on both sides of the law to show how humanity crumbles, faith gives way, and demons creep in through the cracks of conscience.

Set against the multicultural backdrop of England, TBM Where a skilled police officer Jaspreet Bhamra or Jas (Kareena) is emotionally torn after a personal loss stays true to the language and cultural accents of the setting. He takes a transfer and admits a resignation in his job profile, but the grief refuses to go away. Initially reluctant to join the investigation of a missing teenager, Jas decides to put responsibility before himself. In the beginning, Ishpreet seems to be affected by the differences between her Punjabi father Daljit (Ranveer Brar) and his Pakistani Muslim business partner Salim. As the latter’s son Saqib is the prime suspect, the case threatens to create a communal stir in the neighbourhood.

But as the story unfolds, we realize that author Asim Arora has squeezed multiple red herrings and a killer out of our social conditioning about grief and the immigrant experience.

The template of a grieving police officer finding closure while solving a case is not new and has become formulaic over the years. In fact, it has become a go-to format for older stars to flaunt some acting chops and gain a new set of audiences and critical acclaim. If you cross the levels, you can understand the intent of mounting a Kareena talent show TBM As well, but the way the whodunit is plotted keeps one invested. Every suspect has a redeeming feature and every law enforcement has a shade of gray As Jas struggles to move forward, his superior Hardy (Ash Tandon) is also resentful. Married to patriarchy, Daljit is devastated by Covid and the loss of his adopted son. Surrounded by a doting husband and a mother-in-law clinging to a male heir, Ishpreet’s mother Preeti (Prableen Sandhu) is also crying out for her loss of self-worth; The thriller has a dramatic layer of mothers dealing with the loss of their sons.

There are moments where one feels that Mehta seems keen to cram as many social issues as possible into the 114 minutes, but eventually one finds that the script is thought out and the experience relatable for the most part. A lot of that has to do with the cast’s engaging performances. While Ranveer and Ash calculate it, Kareena is the motherboard that definitely maintains the mystery.
