Telugu film personalities condemn Konda Surekha’s comments against Samantha and Akkineni’s family

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao on Wednesday (October 2) made derogatory remarks against prominent film personalities, hours after Telangana government’s Forest and Environment Minister Konda Surekha. , 2024), members of the Telugu film fraternity came together to strongly condemn his statement.

Earlier on Thursday (October 3, 2024), while addressing the media, the Congress minister retracted his derogatory comments that linked KTRK to the divorce of actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Actors Nagarjuna, Amala, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni condemned Konda Surekha’s comments through their social media handles. Samantha also condemned his statement and requested to keep her personal life away from politics.

Several prominent Telugu film personalities also reacted to Telangana Minister Konda Surekha’s comments against Samantha Ruth Prabhu and the Akkineni family. Some of them took the minister’s name but some did not give their speech.

Taking to XK (earlier Twitter), NTR Jr said that people holding positions of responsibility like ministers must maintain dignity and respect for privacy and cannot sit idly by while others make baseless allegations.

Actor Sudheer Babu said that Ms Surekha has not only insulted women, she has dishonored the entire industry which makes Telangana proud. He added that it was time to shift the focus from gossip to governance.

Actor Varun Tej Konidela strongly condemned Ms. Surekha’s harsh comments. He said it was unacceptable to target a family, especially a woman.

The actor said on Nani X that it’s not right for someone in such a respectable position to talk such completely baseless rubbish in front of the media and think it’s okay. “We should all condemn such practices which will reflect badly on our society,” he added.

Actor Chiranjeevi said that one should not stoop to the level of scoring political points by dragging irrelevant people and more so women into political slogfests and making unpalatable imaginary allegations. Venkatesh Daggubati said that public figures have a moral responsibility to maintain dignity in public discourse.

Women’s Voice petition started

Meanwhile, Voice of Women, an advocacy group for women in Telugu cinema, and allied media also strongly condemned the remarks and started a petition on www.change.org on Wednesday night, urging Ms. Surekha to withdraw her statement and apologise. To Samantha, the Akkineni family and other women in the film industry whom he mentioned. Several Voice of Women members including Suma Kanakala, Jhansi, director Nandini Reddy and producer Swapna Dutta condemned Ms. Surekha’s comments.
