‘Martin’ directed by AP Arjun, Controversy and Directed by Dhruv Sarja

Starring Dhruv Sarja Martin, one of The biggest Kannada film of 2024, has been surrounded by controversies weeks before its release. The film’s director, AP Arjun, took the legal route, blaming the film’s producer for not giving proper credit on the film’s poster and other promotional materials. Arjun claimed that the title ‘An AP Arjun Film’ was removed from Martin’s poster, leads to controversy.
The rift between Arjun and producer Uday K Mehta came to light a few months ago when the latter filed a complaint against two VFX coordinators who failed to deliver output on time despite multiple follow-ups. During interrogation, the duo alleged that Arjun received a commission of Rs 50 lakh from the duo for getting Martin’s VFX work.. Arjun denied any secret dealings.
“It’s important to make a film with the right people,” says Arjun, reflecting on the events. Talking about the theories behind the film’s delay, Arjun added, “The team of any film must follow a strict timeline.”
Martin, Three years in the making, multiple obstacles have been encountered. Some reports said that the cast members of the film including Dhruv have delayed the shooting of the film. “It’s not a healthy sign when a film stretches unnecessarily.”

Moving on from the VFX fiasco, Arjun says he is satisfied with the final output. “The film is about an hour and 50 minutes long and involves VFX. If we had relied on only one VFX studio, the film would not have been ready by now. We shared the VFX work among 18 companies,” he says.
In the chaos, Arjun says that he is excited Martin, His first big budget film after his debut, Amber, In 2009. He is counting on his screenplay to do the trick when the film hits screens worldwide on October 11, 2024.
“The film has opposite screenplays. In this day and age, people are addicted to the reels that keep popping up on their phones They watch so much content in just two to three minutes. So it is important to keep the audience interested every 10-15 minutes throughout the runtime of the film. That’s what I tried to achieve Martin.”
Insisting that the film is an out-and-out action entertainer, Arjun detailed the challenges of pulling off the ambitious stunt sequences.
“Rama Lakshman masters choreographing some of the action sequences beautifully,” he explains. “I am also thankful to Ravi Verma, the lead action choreographer of the film. We had to shoot the climax action set piece in Rajasthan. It consisted of 10-15 trucks, 20 jeeps, a tanker and 40 bikes. We could not shoot at the original planned location. Thanks to master Ravi Verma and cinematographer Satya Hegde, we completed the action sequence using Mocobots and special drones in 45 acres of land in Bengaluru.”

While the makers haven’t revealed much about the story of the film, Arjun has called Martin A patriotic film. The film’s promotional material hints at Dhruv Sarja in the role of a soldier. Martin Positioned as high-octane action. “I love the action sequences in it Fast and Furious And mad max series,” says Arjun. “I wanted to do something similar in this film.”
Arjun introduced Dhruv in 2012 with the romantic comedy half-hearted Made on an estimated budget of Rs 4.5 crore, the film reportedly collected Rs 25 crore at the box office. The film ran for 100 days in 50 centres.

In half-heartedDhruv’s dialogue delivery won him fans, but the skill soon became a double-edged sword for the actor. In his later films, including his last release, pogaru,The actor was criticized for his exaggerated dialogue delivery, with people even blaming the directors for stereotyping the actor in the lead role with long punchlines.
“You will see a different constant Martin” Arjun said. “He has done full justice to his reputation of ‘action prince’ and his mannerisms in the film will show more than his dialogues in the film.”
