‘Kadaisi Ulaga Por’ Movie Review: Hiphop Tamija Adhi’s ambitious dystopian film bites off more than it can chew

Musical duo Hiphop Tamija’s journey is interesting, especially after Adhi became an actor and gave us a lot of relatable, fun entertainment. Even when he experimented with the superhero genre (Viran), he stuck to commercial cinema. with Kadaisi Ulaga PorAadhi has made his most ambitious project about a genre new to the Tamil audience, mounted on a new scale for him. The fact that he has bankrolled the movie besides directing this venture project is commendable, but whether it makes Kadaisi Ulaga Por an interesting, entertaining film is a different question altogether.

His sister-in-law Nataraj (Natarajan), who claims to be the kingmaker, dismembers him and makes the chief minister’s daughter Keerthana (Anagha) his political heir. But as he begins to distance himself from his uncle and pursue positive reforms with the help of his lover Thamiz (Adhi), the world comes to a standstill as a new coalition of superpowers called the Republic replaces the United Nations and wreaks havoc on those who don’t. . Chennai fell apart as republican troops on its side resorted to massacres, with many captured and a few escaping their clutches. With a new world order, Thamiz and his band of patriots will fight for their land and freedom.

Its most interesting part Kadaisi Ulaga Por — narrated with some brilliant VFX work in addition to its ambitious story — was the decision to make Nataraj the narrator. As a master manipulator, Tamil is synonymous with the political scene of GoT Littlefinger, Nataraj’s aspirations and actions are the originator of Adi’s story. In no time, the film revolves around a bunch of cops (Munishkanth and Singam Puli), their commissioner (Kalyan), a no-nonsense politician (Azgam Perumal), an actor (Sha Ra), a forest officer (Elango Kumaravel) and a soldier (Harish Uthaman). While they all get their few minutes of fame, none get a solid push.

Pieces of humor are at play thanks to veterans, and they owe it to him, who takes a back seat for most of the film’s runtime. The VFX work is one of the best aspects of the movie. For those who grew up seeing a destroyed Statue of Liberty and a destroyed White House in Hollywood films, seeing the bombed Chepauk Stadium and a destroyed Ripon Building will be an experience. Perhaps the biggest Achilles heel is why politicians and armed forces chiefs will listen to a former anti-poaching Ranger with zero experience in a war room situation. But before one even thinks about it, the film hits you with melodrama and messages at RPMs faster than a machine gun.
