A vision note of the proposed organization, signed by filmmakers Anjali Menon, Lizo Jose Pellissari, Ashiq Abu, Rajeev Ravi, actor Reema Kalingal and producer Vinesh Chandra, has started circulating within the industry.

“Industry is still being run in a feudal manner under the exclusive control of a few. The association will bring about a much-needed change in the way things are being run. Discussions are ongoing and it is yet to be registered,” said Mr Ravi.

The Malayalam film industry, despite its significant contribution to Kerala’s economy and cultural landscape, remains “tethered to antiquated systems and practices,” the vision note said.

Our vision is to unite under the Progressive Filmmakers Association, a conglomerate that will act as the backbone of a new era for Malayalam cinema.
