GoodrichHaley Meyers-Shire’s second outing as a director after 2017 home againThere are echoes of her mother, including films by Nancy Meyers The guardian trap (1998), something has to give (2003), and intern (2015).

Andy Goodrich (Michael Keaton), a Los Angeles art dealer, has his life turned upside down when his second wife, Naomi (Laura Benanti), calls him in the middle of the night to say she’s checked herself into rehab. Andy, whose gallery is his life, suddenly finds himself the primary caregiver for his nine-year-old twins Billy (Vivien Lira Blair) and Mose (Jacob Kopera). Everyone but Andy knew about Naomi’s addiction to prescription pills chased with alcohol, revealing how much of a presence Andy was in the house.

He asks his daughter from his first marriage, Grace, (Mila Kunis) who resents Andy for never being with her. Grace, a writer, and her doctor husband Pete (Danny Deferary) are expecting their first child.

Goodrich (English)

Director: Haley Meyers-Shire

Cast: Michael Keaton, Mila Kunis, Carmen Ezogo, Michael Urie

Story Line: An art dealer has to fight several fires as his wife goes to rehab, leaving him to care for their children, and problems at work.

Runtime: 111 minutes

Andy’s employees, including Johnny (Nico Hiraga) and business partner (Kevin Pollack), tell him the gallery is in trouble. Andy hopes to get the gallery back on its feet by acquiring the works of recently deceased artist Theresa Thompson. He meets Theresa’s daughter, jazz singer Lola (Carmen Izogo) to convince her that her gallery would be a good fit for her mother’s work. Also played by an overly emotional actor and single father, Michael Urie

GoodrichThere’s a lot — a single, workaholic dad on his way to becoming father of the year, watching Casablanca With his kids, finally being there for his grown daughter, being a grandfather of the year and becoming a man, he has learned when to let go and enjoy the little things in life, including going on trips with Grace and doing breathing exercises with her.

There are mild laughs (the Halloween costume where Boba Fett conquers Salvador Dali and Frida Kahlo is pretty funny) and Blair remains cute as a button. Joining the cast are Andy McDowell as Andy’s first wife and Purna Jagannathan (she’s blunt) as Grace’s obstetrician.

Goodrich A movie that would work just fine on a movie night at home (never mind what Kartik Aryan said about being the champion and not Chandu) though Keaton and Kunis make the trip to movies worth your time.

Goodrich is currently playing in theaters
