Sundar, an active member of the theater group, Ranga Bismay, spoke about the film, its origins and more during the pre-release press meet at SVR Theater in Malleswaram. Apart from being made by theater enthusiasts, the 90-minute run time of Prakrana Tanikha Hantadalid makes it different from the regular two-and-a-half-hour or three-hour norm, says the 33-year-old director.

The team joined hands to make the film and we worked with a tight budget.” The team, Sundar says, used the tight budget to its advantage. “Ninety minutes works to tell a continuous crime story. We didn’t want to create any gaps in the narrative and unnecessary. Avoided material that may disturb the audience.”

Sundar, an MBA graduate, left a job in a pharmaceutical company to pursue theater eight years ago. “Thinking aside, the rest of us were part of a theater group called Ranga Baduku, where we staged many Kannada plays.”

While working in the theater, Sundar said, they would also create and discuss film stories. “We have decided to do Prakarna Tanikha hantadallid. Since we couldn’t get the money for the project, Chintan took it upon himself to finance the film.” Sundar says though he has never been a part of the film industry, he has friends who have been in the film industry for years. “We worked with theatrical elements while making this film. Theater people see the stage as a sacred space for their performance and we have made the film with the same vision.

In the theater, as Sundar says, everyone does everything. “One person will act, help with costumes, set and design and work behind the scenes. In theater, each person is involved with the story and the characters from beginning to end. Each player not only knows the story, but their fellow actors also know how to play it.” Sundar, who dreams of making more films, insists that he will never leave theatre. He praised Raktan S Gowda. “He brings a long innings to the film industry and helps us with screenplays and dialogues.”
